Confirmation of Game Boy Advance titles

It gives me great pleasure to confirm that a total of 114 titles will be included in the Game Boy Advance archives when The Nintendo Channel launches next year. The full list of titles will be confirmed next month, shortly after the new blog launches. This list is only provisional, but rest assured that none of the 114 titles currently on the list will be removed should it change at all. To our knowledge, this list contains all European and North American releases from Nintendo, SEGA, Square Enix and Capcom for the Game Boy Advance system, as well as some titles co-published by other publishers (more below), but we are checking with these publishers to ensure we haven’t missed anything out. Some publishers were rather overzealous when it came to “combo” packs for the Game Boy Advance, but we’ve tried to make sure we’ve got them all.

I mentioned above regarding co-publishers: with The Nintendo Channel, we’ll have the option to name multiple companies as developers and publishers, and it turns out that our supported publishers have been keen to collaborate in the past. Here are some of the publishers and co-publishers listed for some Game Boy Advance games:

  • Capcom and Nintendo
  • Capcom and Ubisoft
  • Nintendo and SEGA
  • Nintendo and Square Enix
  • Nintendo and THQ

As you can see, Ubisoft and THQ are listed, even though we don’t support them officially. The reason is simple: Ubisoft was responsible for publishing quite a few of Capcom’s titles in the UK and Europe, and the same responsibility fell to THQ for SEGA’s titles. The rest are simple: Nintendo and SEGA co-published one SEGA title, known as The Tower SP; Nintendo co-published some of Capcom’s Mega Man Battle Network titles; and Nintendo had a penchant for some of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy remakes, as well as for Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.

The Nintendo Channel Press will launch on 1 September, replacing the current blog, and the full (though possibly still provisional) list of GBA titles on the new website will be revealed shortly after.

Progress report (August 2010)

It’s just over three weeks since we officially announced The Nintendo Channel and the response has been overwhelming all over the place. This is a very quick progress update now – exactly one month today, on Wednesday, September 1, we’ll be launching three new websites:

  • The Nintendo Channel Press – Official blog
  • The Nintendo Channel TV – Official YouTube channel
  • Official Twitter page

The web addresses of all these sites will be confirmed on launch day, and they’ll all be available on the main menu over at Codename-Revolution.com. We’ll also be adding a little section on the site’s right-hand menu to let visitors know when new blog updates are posted.

Coming 2011: The Nintendo Channel

Friday, July 9, 2010 – The makers of Codename-Revolution.com have today revealed the first details of the new website previously confirmed as its successor. The new website will be named The Nintendo Channel and is expected to launch in the first half of 2011.

The Nintendo Channel will extend the capabilities and content of Codename-Revolution.com far and beyond what visitors to the website can currently access. The new website, which is currently being built from the ground up, has been in development since Codename-Revolution.com’s third anniversary in May 2009 and is expected to launch in full before the website’s fifth anniversary in May 2011.

The Nintendo Channel will continue to support three of the world’s greatest videogame developers in Nintendo, SEGA and Square Enix and will also lend its full support to Capcom for the first time. Effective immediately, Codename-Revolution.com will support new and upcoming titles from Capcom whilst The Nintendo Channel will include a full archive of Capcom titles for all supported formats.

Following on from the official unveiling of the new Nintendo 3DS system at Nintendo’s E3 presentation last month, The Nintendo Channel will add five new systems to what is already a fantastic line-up of systems supported by Codename-Revolution.com. A full archive of Nintendo, SEGA, Square Enix and Capcom titles will be available for visitors to view for the Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance systems, whilst the new website will also introduce three more Virtual Console systems: SEGA’s Mega Drive and Master System consoles, as well as all Capcom titles for the Virtual Console Arcade, will be supported.

Overall, The Nintendo Channel is expected to play host to more than 900 titles upon its launch: more than double the number of games currently hosted on Codename-Revolution.com.

The Nintendo Channel will also introduce an entire network of websites, all under the name The Nintendo Channel Network. The new website will be accompanied by three brand-new viewing alternatives: a version for the Wii console’s Opera browser, the Internet Channel; a version for the Nintendo DSi Browser; and, in a unique move, a high-definition version of the main website for users with larger screen resolutions. A new community message board will also be available for use from day one.

Before next year, though, users can look forward to the launch of the first wave of websites later this year. viewCR, which has been serving as Codename-Revolution.com’s video outlet since October 2008, will soon close to make way for The Nintendo Channel TV, which will include a full archive of videos right back to the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube days whilst keeping subscribers up-to-date with all the latest videos. A new blog, The Nintendo Channel Press, evolved from the current blog, will also launch in order to keep visitors up-to-date with news and announcements regarding the new website. A Twitter page will also be launched for The Nintendo Channel, keeping followers in the loop regarding new videos and blog entires and, when the main website launches, gaming news and reviews as well. These three website will open to the public on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.

In the meantine, YouTube subscribers will be pleased to hear that, whilst The Nintendo Channel TV will be updating with archived videos as of September 1, viewCR will continue to provide them with the newest videos until early next year. As well as that, upon the blog’s relaunch, more launch details will be provided for The Nintendo Channel and closure details will be confirmed for Codename-Revolution.com. Until then, keep checking Codename-Revolution.com for the latest news and updates for Wii, Nintendo DS and the new Nintendo 3DS.
